How to Optimize Your Pages for the Highest Rankings Possible in
Google
If you want to get a high ranking in Google, you must know how
to properly optimize your Web pages. Follow the steps below to
to obtain the best possible ranking in Google and the other
major search engines.
Google disregards the description META tag and the keyword tag,
but thinks the Title tag is important. the text within the
Title tag is a representation of what is inside the site. The
Title tag is best when it includes 75 characters of
keywords.
It is worth noting that the Title tag is far and away the most
important spot for gaining rankings. Focus on one or two
phrases and include them in the Title and Description tags.
Google picks up your page description from the text within the
page, and that way search results are based upon the actual
content of the page. Google believe it is the information
contained on a page that the user is looking for rather than
lavish words that the Web designer placed in a description tag
in hopes of matching search terms. Google produces produces
relevant results that match the search term by examining the
words on a site, where the words sit on the page, and how
important the text is by comparing font sizes. the text
contained in bold tags, heading tags, or large font sizes are
used as important keywords in the calculation.
When picking the page to optimize for a particular word or
phrase, make certain the page contains content that will
satisfy the user's query. Choosing relevant pages will allow
you to insert the desired phrases in the text of the page more
naturally. Also, assuming the page achieves rankings for the
targeted word of phrase, users should enter your site through
the optimized pages.
Realistically, you should only target one or two phrases per
page. By limiting the number of words you target per page, you
will be able to properly optimize your pages.
A concept that is important in Google's ranking algorithm is
using central theme throughout the site. When determining a
theme, a search engine looks to see if text included in the
Title, META tags, and links is consistent throughout the site.
Your should include information relevant to your Web site and
include common topics all the way through the site. Do not
include keywords or other information irrelevant to the rest of
your site in hopes of gaining a higher search ranking.
It is highly recommended to include keywords with headings and
use bold type and large font sizes. For best results, make sure
that these keywords are located within close proximity, as
Google calculates the distance between keywords. The keywords
near the bottom of the page are just as important as the
keywords at the top of the page. Google also favors keywords
located in, and close to hyperlinks. Google performs part of
its ranking calculations upon the keywords that are contained
in the URL.
Google places great importance on link popularity. Link
Popularity is the number of Web sites that are linked to your
site. The search engine consider a link from one page to
another as a vote for that Web site. Google's rankings are
determined not only by the actual number of links, but also by
the quality of the Web site that has placed the link. The
concept behind this is that Web sites will not link to another
Web site unless they find that site worthy of a link. The
importance of a Web site is calculated by the link popularity
of that Web site. A link from a personal Web site would not be
as importance as a link from a well-known and popular Web site.
One way in which Goggle calculates the relevancy of the links
is by making use of the text within the hyperlinks. If the text
within the hyperlink is appropriate when compared to the page
it is pointing to, then the link is considered relevant. If the
hyperlink text is unrelated to the site at which it is
directed, this is considered an irrelevant link that is poor in
quality.
Once again, it must be noted that Google relies heavily on link
popularity in determining ranking. Despite your best efforts to
create a highly optimized informational page, if this page has
no link popularity, you site will not receive a high
position.
